Unlike sexuality, however, gender roles are imposed from without, through a variety of social influences. Formed during the socialization phases of childhood and adolescence, gender role issues influence people throughout their lives; conflict can arise when someone does not feel at ease with his or her gender role.
The first and one of the strongest influences on a person's perceived gender role is his or her parents. Parents are our first teachers--not only of such basic skills as talking and walking, but also of attitudes and behavior. Some parents still hold traditional definitions of maleness and femaleness and what kinds of activities are appropriate for each. Parents start early in treating their baby boys and baby girls differently.

Assata Olugbala Shakur (born July 16, 1947),as Joanne Deborah Byron, married name Chesimard is an African-American activist and escaped convict who was a member of the Black Panther Party (BPP) and Black Liberation Army (BLA). Shakur was incarcerated in several prisons in the 70s. She escaped from prison in 1979 and has been living in Cuba in political asylum since 1984. Since May 2, 2005, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has classified her as a domestic terrorist and offered a $1 million reward for assistance in her capture. On May 2, 2013, the FBI added her to the Most Wanted Terrorist list and increased the reward for her capture to $2 million.Attempts to extradite her have resulted in letters to the Pope and a Congressional resolution. Shakur is the step-aunt of the deceased hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur, the stepson of her brother Mutulu Shakur. Her life has been portrayed in literature, film and song.

10 things i wish i knew going into highschool

1.  Uncertainty is certain.

There is no antidote to uncertainty.  Everything is always uncertain.

2.  Life is a circle.

Everything you do, everything you say, every choice you make, comes back around.

3. You have full control of your fears.

Your fear is 100% dependent on YOU for its survival, and it is the only thing standing between you and your goals.  Deal with your fears; don’t let them deal with you.

 

4. It’s impossible to love someone who doesn’t love himself or herself.

When someone doesn’t love who they are, they pretend to be someone else, and others end up falling in love with their mask, instead of who they really are.  To keep the affection they keep pretending and performing behind this mask.

5.  Your journey is ultimately what you make of it.

There’s no such thing as perfect happiness, just as there’s no such thing as perfect despair.  What does exist is a continuous series of imperfect moments filled with infinite possibilities and opportunities for you to interpret them and do with them as you please.

 6. A positive vision makes a big difference.

Don’t just see things the way they are.  Envision yourself in the place you want to be, skillfully doing what you are capable of doing.  Envision yourself in this place living the life you desire.  Allow yourself to dream in full color, and know with certainty, that this dream is achievable if you want it to be.

 

7. Money is to be saved, not spent.

I spent money just as fast as I got it. It wouldn't last but twenty minutes in my pocket, before I was handing it over the counter to buy something useless. Which will just end up in the back of my closet in a day, not to be touched again till I throw it out.

8. Rejection is a Part of Life

High school is a roller coaster ride; one minute you feel on top of the world and the next minute you just want to curl up and disappear, but you’ll get through it. When someone rejects you, like a boyfriend or best friend, try to learn from the experience. The same thing applies to not making the team or failing to make call backs for the school play; each rejection is a chance for you to grow and learn from your mistakes

9. Be a friend to everyone

I’m not saying that it’s necessary to become bosom friends with the one person that you most despise or the really awkward kid that never talks, but try smiling at the new kid and introducing yourself. If you’re nice first, most people will be drawn in by that kindness. Teachers will notice it too, and appreciate the fact that having you in their class makes their job just a smidgen easier
